CLEVELAND — A man was shot in the arm by a SWAT officer after he fired at the officers while they were serving search and arrest warrants at a home on Cleveland’s West Side Thursday morning.

The man was taken to MetroHealth for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Detective obtained a search warrant and an arrest warrant for the home in the 4300 block of West 132nd Street for a man who was involved in a violent crime, said Commander Daniel Fay with Cleveland police.

At about 7:30 a.m, a SWAT unit executed the search warrant and entered the home, Fay said. There were five men inside the home. One man brandished a firearm and fired at SWAT officers.

One officer returned fire with one shot and struck the man in the arm, Fay said.

The house and man were secured, and EMS conveyed the injured man to the hospital. News 5 is not naming the man as charges have not been filed.

The man who was shot was not the person they were serving warrants on, Fay said.

The subject of the original warrant, Robert Santiago, 20, was arrested on charges of aggravated burglary and felonious assault. Additionally, Dajuan Evans, 18, was arrested for aggravated robbery and Jaivon WIlliams, 20, was arrested on a warrant for drug abuse. Another man, who police have not identified was released after questioning.

Fay also said police have intelligence that there are firearms and possibly narcotics inside the home.

An special team will now complete a comprehensive investigation of the incident, Fay said.
