Two women visiting from Pittsburgh were robbed at gunpoint by two males while they were outside a Tremont bar waiting for an Uber, according to a Cleveland police report.
Police responded to the Spotted Owl at 710 Jefferson Avenue at about 11 p.m. Sunday night and spoke to the two victims, the report states. They told police they had their heads down looking into a phone, waiting for their Uber to arrive when two men walked up to them on the sidewalk coming west on Jefferson Avenue.
The victims told police the male with the handgun had a hoody zipped up and cinched around his face. He pointed the gun at them while the other male grabbed their purses.
One woman’s purse was valued at $100 and contained a passport, bank card, phone and wallet containing about $400, the report states. The other woman’s purse contained a wallet with $200, her bank card, car keys and hotel room key card.
The males took off running west on Jefferson and may have turned north on Thurman Avenue, the report states. The victims believed the suspects were on foot and did not have a vehicle in the area.
Police searched the area for the suspects and discarded purses but they were unable to find either, the report states. The bar staff said a nearby business has a surveillance camera pointed at the location of the robbery.
At about 2 a.m., one of the victims called police and said her cell phone pinged in Warrensville Heights. Police there searched the apartment complex where the phone pinged but found nothing.
