Two people were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in critical condition after a crash on Denison Avenue early Thursday.

According to Cleveland police, a Ford Fusion was heading westbound on Denison Avenue around 2:30 a.m. when the driver hit a utility pole just before West 34th Street. The impact nearly tore the car in half.

The car came to a rest with the passenger side of the car torn away from the rest of the car and one person ejected.

Cleveland EMS said a 30-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were in critical condition when taken from the scene.

Denison Avenue was closed from West 36th to West 33rd Streets while the crash was investigated.
