CLEVELAND — More than 300 people participated in the White Cane Walk in Cleveland Saturday.
The event was held to support the Cleveland Sight Center, an organization that assists Northeast Ohio residents who are blind or have low vision. Among the staff, there are optometrists, therapists and employment specialists available for those with little to no vision.
The White Cane Walk began at the Cleveland Sight Center, headed towards Severance Hall and then back to the Cleveland Sight Center. Some of the people who participated in the walk were blind residents who used their white canes to guide them through the event.
More than 20 puppies that are in training to be guide dogs made an appearance at the walk, as did Cleveland Indians mascot Slider.
The event raised around $50,000 for the organization, according to the Cleveland Sight Center.
