LifeCare Ambulance Service in Elyria and Lorain report the number of naloxone doses issued to heroin overdose victims thus far in 2017 is up fivefold compared to 2016.

LifeCare reported it issued 169 doses of naloxone in 2015, 223 doses in 2016, and has already administered 373 doses as of April 6 of this year.

Mike Bridge, LifeCare Elyria Director of Operations, told News 5 his team is averaging nearly four naloxone doses everyday, a number he believes will not be dropping as we head into the summer season.

"This job can be really rewarding, and it can be very frustrating," said Bridge. "Seeing the same folks over and over again, and the frustration that no matter what you do, you'll more than likely see them again."
