MENTOR, Ohio — The Lake Humane Society needs your help to care for a sick dog who has complications from heatstroke after her owner allegedly left her chained up outside in the hot sun without shade, food or water.

Penny, a 1-year-old pit bull terrier mix, was surrendered to the court system after she was taken from her owner. When found, she had issues standing up and even breathing.

According to the humane society, lab results show that due to being left in the sun, Penny has developed kidney and liver problems. She’s on medication to treat the issue but is still weak and underweight. Earlier this week, Penny faced a setback when her hind legs gave out and she collapsed.

In the coming weeks, Penny will need radiographs and other medical attention while the next course of treatment is evaluated.

The humane society says Penny adores belly rubs and spending time with people.
