The Mentor Police Department was dispatched on Wednesday to investigate the possible manufacturing or storage of illegal fireworks. Police asked people to avoid the area near Heatherstone Condominiums at 6400 Center Street.
Police said they were focused on one of the apartment units, and News 5 was there as a Lake County Bomb Squad was ready to remove any explosives found.
A day after our report aired, the City of Mentor issued a statement saying a search warrant was used, and law enforcement gathered "several small bags of homemade fireworks, as well as compounds and chemicals used to make fireworks."
The city's statement said those items were seized, and charges are pending while the investigation continues.
