A Lake Avenue man is behind bars with stab wounds after an attempted burglary Sunday afternoon.
Joshua Robbins, 32, faces charges of aggravated burglary after breaking into a home in Elyria.
It all started when a couple returned to their Woodland Avenue home around 1:30 p.m., according to police reports. As Robbins came down the steps of the home, a resident – identified as Linda Heathcote – attempted to stop him from fleeing, prompting Robbins to slam her on the ground.
That’s when Linda Heathcote’s husband, Jeffrey Heathcote, reportedly stabbed Robbins with a butcher knife.
Unable to get out the home’s back sliding door, it appeared Robbins jumped out a window, leaving behind most of the items he collected.
Jeffrey Heathcote then chased after Robbins as his wife called 911.
Robbins was apprehended a short time later near the intersection of Lake and Foster avenues, police said.
He was treated for a stab wound in his shoulder blade at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center and then released back into police custody.
