PIERPOINT TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred in Ashtabula County Friday afternoon.
Around 1:20 p.m., a 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling on U.S. Route 6 in Pierpont Township when it drove off the side of the road while negotiating a curve. The motorcycle then struck a ditch and vaulted into the air, troopers said.
The 70-year-old driver of the motorcycle, Richard Wood, was ejected from the vehicle, according to troopers.
Wood was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.
Troopers believe speed may have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
