An Ashtabula housing inspector is accused of raping a woman during a housing inspection last September.
According to the prosecutor's office, 47-year-old John Artuso was indicted this week on charges of rape, kidnapping and sexual battery.
Artuso was previously under investigation by the Ashtabula Police Department for theft of money and property from a vacant home on West Avenue.
Shortly after that investigation was publicly reported, a woman contacted law enforcement indicating that, during a housing inspection in September 2017, Artuso raped her.
He was indicted by a grand jury on Tuesday. Around 11 a.m. Thursday, he was arrested by the US Marshals and taken to the Ashtabula County Jail.
