ASHTABULA, Ohio — The Crime Enforcement Agency of Ashtabula County Task Force and Ashtabula police seized multiple suspected illegal drugs, a handgun, drug paraphernalia, and packaging materials while executing a search warrant Wednesday that also resulted in a Cleveland man's arrest.

On Jan. 29, the Ashtabula Police Department and the CEAAC Task Force served a search warrant at an apartment in the 2100 block of Michigan Ave. after a month-long investigation into the suspected sale of heroin from an apartment unit.

Police located the target of the investigation, a 26-year-old Cleveland resident, and took him into custody. According to police, the man is facing drug trafficking charges pending lab tests on the suspected drugs. He is also facing weapon charges. Following the man's arrest, he was transported to the Ashtabula County Jail.

A female at the scene was detained by authorities and later released.

During the search, police said they seized the following:

  • 70 grams of suspected heroin
  • 59 grams of suspected methamphetamine
  • Suspected LSD
  • Three oxycodone tablets
  • Four grams of suspected ecstasy
  • A Taurus 9mm handgun
  • Various drug paraphernalia
  • Packaging materials and more than $1000 cash

Two members from the CEAAC Task Force received treatment after accidentally inhaling an unknown substance while performing the search, authorities said. They needed no further treatment.

Police executed a second warrant at a residence in the 900 block of West 41st Street. Authorities said that they seized prescription medication, marijuana, an elaborate surveillance system and more than $200 in cash. The male resident of that home faces drug trafficking charges after the drugs are tested.
