ASHTABULA COUNTY, Ohio — A Conneaut man was sentenced to prison after being convicted of raping a 15-year-old girl in 2018, according to the Ashtabula County Courthouse.

Robert Hodges was convicted in February of one count of rape, one count of kidnapping and unlawful sexual assault of a minor.

In July of 2018, a 15-year-old girl from Ashtabula went to a party at a friend’s house in Conneaut. When she was ready to go home, the girl borrowed a phone to call her mother. Her mother instructed her to walk to her friend’s house so the friend’s mother could give her a ride home, according to the court.

The friend’s mother wasn’t home, but Hodges was and he refused to take the girl home, the court said.

The girl began walking to a nearby gas station to contact a ride, but Hodges picked her up as she was walking, took her back to his house and raped her, according to the court.

After being convicted on all counts in February, Hodges was sentenced to five years in prison on Thursday.

Hodges will have to register as a Tier III sex offender for the rest of this life, the court said.
