SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol has released video that shows an Ashtabula man leading troopers on a 28-mile-long chase in a stolen vehicle.
Jose Ocasio, 26, has been charged with receiving stolen property and fleeing and eluding.
The chase happened on May 27 just before 11 p.m. on State Route 45 near State Route 531 in Saybrook Township.
According to OSHP, troopers tried to stop a blue 1997 Plymouth Neon for a traffic violation, but the driver fled from authorities. Troopers later learned that the car had just been stolen from a home in Ashtabula.
During the chase, the Neon hits a tree at the intersection of State Route 531 and Thayer Avenue in Ashtabula but continued to flee, troopers said. Eventually the driver bailed out of the car while it was still moving. He was taken into custody without incident.
Ocasio is currently being held at the Ashtabula County Jail.
The Neon was returned to its owner, troopers said.
