Man dies after crashing into a dead horse

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one car crash involving a dead horse in the road in Williamsfield Township early Sunday morning.

Troopers say a 2006 Ford F-250 was driving eastbound on US 322 near mile post 23 when it came upon a dead horse in the road. 

The truck swerved to try and avoid the horse and lost control. the Ford hit the horse and flipped so that it landed on its roof in the road.

It is unclear how the horse became dead in the road.

The driver of the truck died from his injuries at the scene. He was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The 16-year-old passenger was taken by his parents to mercy Health, St. Joseph's of Andover with minor injuries. He was wearing his seatbelt during the crash.

Alcohol and speed may have been a factor in the crash, but it remains under investigation.
