ASHTABULA COUNTY, Ohio — A New York man driving a car with a California registration was stopped by troopers in Ashtabula County; they seized $7,000 worth of methamphetamine.
On March 23 at about 12:30 p.m., troopers stopped the car for a marked lanes violation on Interstate 90, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. While interacting with the driver, troopers detected an odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle.
A probable cause search revealed “user” amounts of marijuana, the release states. A further search revealed 85 grams of methamphetamine.
The driver, Derek L. Tackitt, 57, of Clayton, New York, was incarcerated at the Ashtabula County Jail and charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance, a second-degree felony. If convicted, he could face up to eight years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
