Vehicle carrying 9 occupants crashes, killing 1 minor in Ashtabula Co.

WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving a vehicle carrying nine occupants that occurred in Ashtabula County Saturday night.

Around 11:01 p.m., a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling east on Huntley Road about a mile west of Wiswell Road in Windsor Township when it went off the left side of the road, struck a ditch and overturned, partially ejecting one of the passengers, according to troopers.

The 19-year-old driver was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries, troopers said.

Of the eight passengers in the Silverado at the time of the crash, two 20-year-olds and an 18-year-old were uninjured. Another 18-year-old was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to troopers.

Four of the passengers were minors. Authorities pronounced one of the minors dead on the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash, troopers said.

Troopers said alcohol and/or drugs appear to be a factor in the crash.

None of the nine occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, according to troopers.

The crash remains under investigation.
