SOLON, Ohio — A 12-year-old girl was arrested after she took her parents’ car in the middle of the night, crashed it and was found to have a weapon on her, according to the Solon Police Department.

Around 12:35 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, officers were called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of SOM Center Road and Cromwell Drive, police said.

Officers found the car, but there was no one inside. While checking the area, officers spotted a girl walking in the 32000 block of North Roundhead Drive, according to police.

When officers went to approach the girl, she walked up to a house and rang the doorbell, but got no answer, police said.

The girl then walked up to the patrol vehicle and told officers she was 13 years old and had gotten into an argument with her mom. She said she took an Uber to get to North Roundhead Drive, according to police.

Police continued to question the girl and learned that she had actually been the driver of the crashed car they were on the scene investigating, police said.

The girl had taken the car without her father’s permission, according to police.

Before taking the girl to the police station, the girl removed a kitchen knife with a seven-inch blade from the front of her pants, police said.

The girl was released to her parents and the case has been forwarded to the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court, according to police.
