BEREA, Ohio — A 14-year-old boy in Berea is accused of attempting to poison his grandfather using contaminated coffee creamer, according to the Berea Police Department.

The grandfather told police that on four of the 10 previous days he noticed his coffee creamer tasted badly or had a chemical smell.

After the fourth instance, the man searched his 14-year-old grandson’s laptop and discovered the teen had searched “how to poison your parents,” police said.

The teen was interviewed and told police that on four occasions he added lime juice, pepper juice, a household cleaner and an insect killer to his grandfather’s coffee creamer.

During the interview, the teen told police that he was upset because he thought his grandfather and his girlfriend were going to cancel Christmas because of his poor online school performance.

Police say no one became ill as a result of the contaminated coffee creamer and charges against the teen were filed in juvenile court.
