MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — A 62-year-old man was killed in a fire at a Maple Heights residence on Monday night, according to the Maple Heights Fire Department.
Maple Heights police responded at around 8:39 p.m. to a home in the 17100 block of Maple Heights Boulevard for a structure fire.
Officers learned an adult male was inside the residence on the second floor. Responding officers attempted to enter the home but due to the amount of smoke they were forced back outside.
Maple Heights Fire responded and located the 62-year-old man inside the home. Firefighters administered first aid and transported him to the Bedford Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Red Cross said five other adults survived, and are being given immediate financial assistance, in addition to recovery help.
“Our heart goes out to the family of the resident who perished,” said Renee Palagyi, regional senior disaster program manager for the Red Cross of Northern Ohio, in a news release. “We are grateful for the volunteers on our Integrated Care and Condolence Team who help give comfort to the loved ones left behind.”
The Ohio Division of State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Maple Heights Police Department are conducting an investigation.
