EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — Authorities are investigating an officer involved-shooting that occurred during a pursuit in East Cleveland Saturday morning, according to the East Cleveland Police Department.

Around 11:17 a.m., officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of East 152nd Street and Collamer Avenue with a vehicle that refused to stop, police said.

Two men were inside the vehicle and after a pursuit through East Cleveland and Cleveland, both jumped out of the vehicle near the 14000 block of Castalia Avenue in Cleveland, according to police.

Officers then chased the two men on foot, apprehending one of the men, police said.

Police said the second man jumped a fence, pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at an officer who then fired at the man.

The second man continued to run and police lost him. A K-9 Unit was dispatched and the man was later able to be located and taken into custody, police said.

Officers found the man’s handgun and learned that he was not hit by the officer’s bullets, police said.

The incident remains under investigation.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation will investigate the officer involved shooting, police said.
