BAY VILLAGE, Ohio — Bay Village police arrested two teenagers who were intoxicated in the back seat of an Uber after officers pulled the driver over for a moving violation.

Police said last Thursday at around 1:10 a.m., they stopped a vehicle on Cahoon Road near Wolf Road.

After officers spoke with the Uber driver, they noticed two passengers in the back seat who were "heavily intoxicated and appeared under 21."

A 19-year-old man from Bay Village and a 19-year-old woman from Chagrin Falls were removed from the car and failed a field sobriety test.

Underage drinking is illegal in Ohio unless you are with a parent, guardian or spouse. However, the teens were arrested even though they did what parents and officers tell teenagers to do if they are drinking: don't get behind the wheel.

The Uber driver who prompted that traffic stop was "strongly advised about his driving," police said.
