Bedford police department's K-9 now has a life-saving vest thanks to a donation from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.
K-9 Mike received the vest this week. It is meant to protect him from bullets and objects that could be used to stab him.
This comes just one month after a Canton K-9 was shot and killed in the line of duty. K-9 Jethro was not wearing a bulletproof vest and was shot in vital organs.
Manufacturers of the vests hope they can prevent those type of tragedies from happening. However, a donation of $1,050 is required to provide just one protective vest. Each vest is valued between $1,795 and $2,234.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 1,700 protective vests to dogs in 49 states.
