ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — A Bedford man is being held in police custody after he allegedly assaulted a woman in Rocky River, stole her car and then crashed it on Interstate 90 in Cleveland.
The suspect, John A. Boyd, 38, has been charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated assault and kidnapping, according to Rocky River police.
Authorities said the woman knew the suspect from a prior relationship.
The attack allegedly happened Thursday evening in the Rocky River Oval neighborhood.
The woman had just arrived at home when she discovered the suspect holding a gun inside her residence, authorities said. Boyd allegedly attacked the woman, but she was able to escape and run to a neighbor’s house and call police.
Boyd grabbed the woman’s keys and drove off in her car heading eastbound on Interstate 90, police said. He eventually crashed between Warren Road and West 117th Street in Cleveland. Following the crash, Boyd ran off but was later apprehended.
Authorities said they recovered a gun in the crashed car that matched the description of the weapon Boyd allegedly brandished inside the woman’s home.
The woman was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
