BEREA, Ohio — The Berea City School District has decided to change the Berea-Midpark High School logo after getting feedback that it was reminiscent of a white power fist.

Superintendent Tracy Wheeler said she asked vendors to stop printing the logo and asked the athletics department to remove it from the website.

She asked the logo's original artist to draw up some new designs with different colors.

The artist designed the logo in 2013 when Berea and Midpark merged, it's supposed to be a symbol of unity and the school district said it was never intended as a racial statement.

"Perspective matters -- listening to other people and their opinions matters also, I've talked to other people who say 'I don't see that at all in that logo,' but obviously we do have people who do see that in that logo," Wheeler said.

The district made the decision on July 14.
