A man who barricaded himself inside a home in Parma Friday morning, prompting a SWAT standoff, has surrendered to police.

Multiple daycare facilities and schools in Parma were placed on lockdown while SWAT responded to a home where the possibly armed man was believed to have barricaded himself inside.

SWAT officers and crisis negotiators were called to the scene to attempt to contact the man.

Police said the incident was originally treated as a hostage situation because a woman was also inside the home. She was safely removed a short time later.

According to Parma Fire Department Public Information Officer Doug Turner, the man barricaded himself inside the home after a car crash in the 6500 block of Broadview Road.
