CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — The Cleveland Heights Police Department is investigating an incident involving a man walking around carrying a gun and allegedly telling someone he was “going to kill Black people.”
Around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, officers were called to the 3500 block of Blanche Avenue for reports of a man walking in the area with a rifle slung over his back, police said.
Once on scene, officers spoke to the man and determined that he was not breaking any laws and was within the law to carry a firearm while walking in the area. Officers also spoke to witnesses, who at no time confirmed that he acted unlawfully by making threats or pointing the rifle at anyone, according to police.
On Sunday, a social media post was brought to the attention of the Cleveland Heights Police Department that indicated the same man had told someone he was “going to kill Black people,” police said.
After receiving that information, officers are now attempting to identify and locate the person who heard the man make those threats, which the department says it takes “very seriously."
Cleveland Heights police said they will be increasing patrols in the area where the man was seen walking and ask that anyone with information regarding the incident contact them at 216-321-1234.
