An EMS supervisor has confirmed to News 5 that a Cleveland police officer was taken to a nearby hospital after exposure to a substance of what appeared to be fentanyl.

Detective Reginald Lanton of the Cleveland Police Department said officers were searching the 17800 block of Neff Road.

Two men were taken into custody. Crews who responded to the scene were wearing masks while they searched the area.

The officer was treated and released from the hospital.

A similar situation happened to an Orwell police officer on July 3 after he started exhibiting signs of a possible opioid overdose. He was given Narcan and taken to a nearby hospital for observation.
