A new project in Lakewood is hoping to bring the community together and help those in need.
A community fridge is now open and stocked at Root Cafe, thanks to the group Community Fridge Cleveland.
The concept is simple, anyone can take food from the fridge if they need it, or leave food if they have it to give.
Alex Quandt, founder of Community Fridge Cleveland, said she hopes the project inspires people to take care of each other.
“It is absolutely imperative at any time but especially during a pandemic to help out your neighbor. Anyone can benefit from this and similar projects, feel empowered to help your community,” Quandt said.
Items that cannot be accepted in the fridge include food that is made in a home rather than a safe and professional setting, open items, items without ingredients clearly labeled and alcohol.
Root Cafe is located at 15118 Detroit Ave. in Lakewood.
