DeAndrew Smith was indicted Monday for felonious assault and abduction after the jury found that he knowingly caused serious physical harm to a student he fought with at Westlake High School on April 12.
The Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas heard the case. Charges arose against Smith following the high school fight that left a 17- year-old student in "very serious" condition, according to authorities.
Police said the fight broke out in the men's bathroom and that the 17-year-old appeared lethargic when he was found.
Smith is also facing rape and kidnapping charges from an unrelated April incident. He pleaded not guilty to those charges earlier this month. He was a juvenile at the time those charges were filed but is now 18 years old.
