A man accused of hitting a Shaker Heights teacher with his car and leaving the victim to die has pleaded guilty on Monday.

Derick Ward, 45, was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide in connection with the hit-and-run death of James Caffery the evening of Jan. 24.
Caffery, who was jogging along South Park Boulevard, was a 5th-grade teacher at Woodbury Elementary School.
After hitting Caffery, police said Ward fled the scene on foot.
Ward had a suspended driver's license at the time of the crash, according to police.

The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office said Ward will be sentenced on Oct. 28 and faces up to 14 years in prison.
