Police: 74-year-old man killed after failing to put his vehicle in park

A 74-year-old man was killed by his own car after failing to put his vehicle in park on Saturday afternoon.

Michael J. Markic, 74, was backing out of from the garage of his home on 10608 Parkhurst Drive in a 2015 Ford Fiesta.

Markic stopped the vehicle, opened the driver's side door and exited the vehicle, failing to put the gear of the vehicle in park, according to Cleveland police.

He was partially out of his car when the Ford Fiesta started to reverse down the driveway.

Markic was hit by the door of his car, which knocked him down to the ground. The car rolled over Markic and eventually came to a stop in the rear yard of 10606 Parkhurst Drive.

He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.
