Euclid officer knocked to the ground during traffic stop when car speeds off

A Euclid officer conducting a traffic stop on Friday night was knocked to the ground when the car he had pulled over fled from the scene.

The traffic stop happened just before 9 p.m. on the 22800 block of Lakeshore Boulevard. The officer had the door of the car open and was speaking to a passenger of the vehicle when the driver put the car in gear and sped off, police said. The officer was knocked to the ground and suffered a minor injury. 

Authorities said the officer was not in the vehicle when it sped off.

The driver was apprehended a few minutes later by Willowick police, who were monitoring radio traffic.

The identity of the driver and has not been released.
