FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio — A Fairview Park officer was hospitalized Monday after the cruiser he was in was hit by another vehicle while responding to a crash.
At about 3:41 p.m., the officer was responding to a crash with his lights and siren activated. While on the way to the crash, he had cautiously went left of center to go around traffic stopped at the intersection of West 210th Street and Mastick Road, according to Fairview Park Police Chief Erich Upperman.
When he went to turn left on Mastick Road, another vehicle turned into his path coming from the northbound direction on Mastick and onto West 210th Street.
The airbags in both vehicles were deployed and the officer and both occupants inside the other vehicle were taken to Fairview Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, Upperman said.
The officer was treated and released late Monday night.
The report will be reviewed by the city prosecutor to determine if charges should be filed.
