Family dog killed in Parma house fire, one resident hospitalized with burns

A family dog died in a house fire in Parma on Hoertz Road.

PARMA, Ohio — A family dog was killed and four residents were evacuated from a home that caught fire in Parma early Wednesday morning, according to the Parma Fire Department.

Firefighters from Parma responded at around 2:10 a.m. to a home on fire in the 7500 block of Hoertz Road.

Upon arrival, they found that the fire had spread to the second floor of the home and roof.

Four residents were in the home at the time of the fire. One of those residents was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center with fire-related burns.

The remaining three residents were treated at the scene by the Seven Hills Fire Department.

Despite resuscitative efforts by personnel at the scene, the dog died from the effects of the fire.

The Parma Fire Prevention and Investigation Division is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
