LAKEWOOD, Ohio — A 21-year-old former student of Lakewood High School was arrested after he allegedly threatened on Snapchat to bring a weapon to the school on Monday.

At 5:47 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, the Lakewood Police Department received a call from the Cleveland Office of the FBI, according to a news release from police. The FBI had received a tip from Snapchat about the threat.

Lakewood police followed up on the tip and traced the Snapchat message to a Lakewood resident, the release states. The man was placed under arrest and is in custody at the Lakewood jail. He will be interviewed by detectives and the appropriate charges will be sent to the Lakewood City Prosecutor for review.

“Thanks to the Lakewood Police Department for their outstanding work,” Lakewood City Schools Superintendent Mike Barnes said. “Parents and students, it is critical that if you see or hear something, you say something. We must all work together to keep our students and staff safe.”
