One person was injured while trying to rescue their dog from a fire that broke out at a Garfield Heights duplex on Tuesday morning.
Garfield Heights firefighters responded to a duplex on fire around 12:30 a.m. at the corner of Turney Road and Dorothy Avenue.
The duplex was occupied by a family living upstairs and another family living downstairs.
Everyone escaped, but one of the residents living upstairs was hurt while trying to rescue their dog from the blaze.
The dog died in the fire after the resident was unable to rescue it.
The person who tried to rescue the dog was treated at the scene.
The second floor of the duplex was completely destroyed. It's unclear how the fire started.
