The man accused of hitting and killing Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Kenneth Velez was released from the Cuyahoga County Jail Friday evening.
According to court documents, 37-year-old Joshua Gaspar was placed on supervised release with regular drug testing. He is also prohibited from driving. Only News 5 was at the jail when he was released.
Cleveland Municipal Court records say Gaspar was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash. Velez, 48, was conducting traffic enforcement about 1 p.m. on September 16 when he was hit outside his cruiser on the highway. He was a 27 year veteran of the force and a father of three.
Gaspar is due back in court on March 1 at 10 a.m.
