BEACHWOOD, Ohio — The Beachwood Police Department is investigating after an altercation outside of Beachwood Place mall ended with a man shot Saturday afternoon, according to the city of Beachwood.
Around 1:54 p.m., Beachwood police were called to the mall for reports of shots fired outside of it, the city said.
A man suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and pelvis and was transported to a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery and is currently recovering in the ICU, according to the city.
Police took another man into custody, the city said.
The shooting was the result of an altercation and police believe the two men knew each other prior to the incident.
No one else was injured, according to the city.
The shooting is not believed to be a random act of violence and remains under investigation.
Beachwood Place issued the following statement regarding the incident:
There was an altercation between individuals outside the shopping center. Our partners at the Beachwood Police Department were quickly on site to handle the situation. There is no threat to our shopping center community.
