CLEVELAND — A motorcyclist died after crashing into a pole early Monday morning, according to Cleveland police.
Cleveland police said the crash happened at 2:15 a.m. on Pearl Road at Leopold Avenue.
The motorcyclist, identified as Jose A. Alvarez, 30, of Cleveland, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office.
On scene, police learned from witnesses that Alvarez was traveling southbound on Pearl Road when he passed their vehicle to the right in a marked bicycle lane. The motorcycle struck the curb, ejecting Alvarez from the bike, where he then hit a utility pole and a traffic signal box, police said.
Police said family/friends of the motorcyclist were following behind the motorcyclist when the crash happened.
Pearl Road was closed from Gifford to Ardmore avenues. The Cleveland Division of Police Accident Investigation Unit will do a full reconstruction to determine what caused the crash.
