A couple from Akron, currently living in Southern Florida, is preparing to ride out Hurricane Irma as it inches closer to the United States.
Greg and Dee Eddy live in Coral Cape, Florida - just outside of Fort Meyers.
The couple began preparing for the storm earlier this week, boarding up their home and buying a generator.
Though, on Saturday morning the Eddy's headed to a shelter for safety reasons.
"We didn't want to leave our home. That's where we're comfortable," Dee said.
"I've been through a couple of storms down here," Greg said. "But this thing is nothing to play with. I just got scared and I told her [Dee] that maybe we should head to a shelter where we know we'll be safe, and on Monday just hope we have a house to come back to."
However, they were turned away due to the number of people already there.
"I am trying to stay calm about this. I'm trying to not get really upset about this," Dee said. "It's not in our hands now, it's in someone else's hands."
The Eddy's have taken photos their home, inside and out, for insurance purposes.
News5Cleveland.com is going to periodically check in with the couple as the storm passes through Florida and will post updates as they become available.
