PARMA, Ohio — Parma police are investigating after shots were fired in the area where UAW members were protesting on Tuesday, according The Parma Police Department.
A protester flagged down police and informed them of possible shots fired near the UAW building on Chevrolet Boulevard.
The protester gave police four shell casings that were found in the area where the shots were allegedly fired. Protesters told police that they heard shots fired at around 1:30 a.m.
Officers investigating the area of the street in front of the building and found an additional shell casing.
As of Tuesday afternoon, police do not know the circumstances surrounding the incident and whether shots were aimed at any protesters or if they were just fired into the air.
Police said the shooting remains under investigation.
Members of the UAW Local 1005 have been protesting outside of the GM Metal Plant in a nationwide strike that has entered its second week, making it the second-longest nationwide strike since 1970.
