BEDFORD, Ohio — Authorities are investigating a burglary after a thief busted through a cinder block wall at a local recycling center and pilfered around $137,000 of booty.

The theft happened Jan. 13 at Bedford Metal Recycling, 144 Northfield Road, Bedford, according to the police report.

In total, around $137,000 worth of coins, metal bars, gold and cash was taken. About $35,000 of the amount was in cash. Two handguns were also taken, the police report stated.

The police report states it appears the burglar or burglars used a sledgehammer to smash through a wall and then emptied out the safe. Even though the business had an an alarm system, police say the crooks cut the phone and power lines to keep it from going off.

Authorities say they don't suspect any employees, but they do believe the thieves have been in the building before.

A $2,500 reward has been offered for any information leading to the arrest and successful prosecution of the burglars.
