Willoughby Hills police and fire crews are investigating a fatal car accident involving two cars.

The accident happened at around 1:30 p.m. on the 36000 block of Chardon Road in Willoughby Hills.

A silver Volkswagon Jetta was traveling westbound on Chardon Road when it went left of the center line, striking a red Honda Civic carrying two occupants traveling eastbound.

"We had two vehicles, one traveling eastbound and one traveling westbound...the westbound vehicle went left of center and struck the eastbound vehicle," said Sergeant Brian Jackson of the Willoughby Police Department. "There was a fatality in the accident, two more people went to the hospital. Alcohol may have been a factor, but we're not positive about that yet."

The driver of the Honda Accord, Gregory Morawski, 26, of Eastlake, was killed on the scene, according to the Willoughby Hills Police Department.

The passenger of the Accord and the driver of the Jetta were taken to Hillcrest Hospital.

Mentor and Willowick Police Departments along with Willoughby Hills Fire Department arrived on scene.

The road was closed as emergency crews and local law enforcement investigated the scene.

It's unclear what caused the driver to swerve into the eastbound lane. No charges have been filed as of Wednesday.

The crash is under investigation by the Lake County Crash Reconstruction Unit.
