WALTON HILLS, Ohio — The Walton Hills Police Department and Oakwood Fire Department came to the rescue of dog trapped in an icy pond Friday morning.

Video posted on the Walton Hills Police Department’s Facebook page shows a first responder making his way through the icy waters to reach the dog stuck in the middle of the pond.

Walton police were called to a pond off of South Meadowpark Drive at around 11 a.m. on Friday.

Shortly after they arrived, police called the Oakwood Fire Department because the dog was too far in the pond to reach.

Oakwood fire said they had ice rescue training, so they suited two firefighters up. The first firefighter who went out on the water was able to get the dog out.

The dog, who lived right next to the pond, was given back to its owner. The dog was a little cold and wet, but firefighters said it appeared to be alright.

‘I’ve worked 20 years Oakwood. Never pulled a dog out of a pond. Glad it turned out,” said an Oakwood firefighter.
