PERKINS TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed while attempting to cross U.S. 250 in Perkins Township, located in Erie County, Sunday night.
The crash happened at around 7:15 p.m. near mile post 5.
The pedestrian, identified as Dennis J. Mahutga, 59, of California, was walking across U.S. 250 from Kalahari to Hy-Miller gas station when he was hit by a 2013 Buick SUV traveling southbound on U.S. 250.
The driver of the SUV was not injured in the crash.
State troopers said it is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
