ERIE COUNTY, Ohio — A Florida man has been arrested after leading troopers on a chase after hitting a vehicle and driving away.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said they were called to a hit-skip around 9:15 p.m. Saturday on the turnpike at mile marker 79 eastbound.
Troopers attempted to stop Jacoby Smart's vehicle at mile marker 96, but he drove away.
Smart's vehicle struck the rear of a commercial vehicle trailer and went off the right side of the roadway at mile marker 115 in Erie County, according to troopers.
His vehicle went through a fence and stopped in a field approximately 200 feet from the road, troopers said.
Troopers said Smart fled on foot and after a short chase, was arrested without further incident.
Smart was transported to Fisher-Titus Hospital in Norwalk with non-life-threatening injuries.
He is facing charges of OVI, hit-skip and felony fleeing and eluding.
Smart will be arraigned on Monday.
