Outrage over a viral video has sparked an investigation in Vermilion.
In the video posted to Facebook, you can see a woman dragging a dog by its leash and then pushing it into the choppy water.
Her reason? She was teaching her dog how to swim.
Elijah Boggs and his mother shared the video with a friend to see if she had seen the woman around. That friend shared the video on Facebook and it took off.
The video shows the woman dragging the dog toward the water. She then pushes the hesitant dog into the water. When it gets out, she tries once again but that's when Boggs decides to interfere.
You can hear the woman tell him she was simply teaching her dog how to swim.
But Boggs says that's not what he saw.
"I didn't want to see it happen a third time so I went down and stopped her," he told News 5. "...If you teach your dog how to swim you should be careful and not throw them into the water."
Boggs says he called police but they didn't take a report.
It was only after the video got a lot of attention online and people called in that the police department posted the picture to their Facebook page.
Vermilion police wouldn't comment on the incident but say they have identified the woman and are investigating.
