The body of a 35-year-old woman who went missing while swimming with a friend early Saturday morning has been found.
According to the Sandusky Fire Department, authorities were notified of the missing swimmer around 2 a.m. The victim and another person had been swimming at a private beach off of Cement Avenue.
The other swimmer told firefighters the woman went under the water and never resurfaced.
Crews conducted a land search of the nearby shore but were unsuccessful. A dive team was called in and her body was found about 50 yards out in the water
Firefighters said it appears the woman died from an accidental drowning but the official cause of death will be determined after the coroner’s office conducts an autopsy.
The woman has been identified but authorities are not releasing her name until next of kin have been notified.
