BAINBRIDGE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Bainbridge Township Police Department is searching for a woman accused of shoplifting, fleeing the scene in a car with children and abandoning the children in the car after crashing it.

Around 7 p.m. Friday evening, a woman stole clothing from Dick’s Sporting Goods on Market Place Drive in Aurora, police said.

After stealing the clothing, the woman ran to her car where two children, both under the age of 10, were sitting inside, according to police.

Officers spotted the woman's car and attempted to stop her. Police chased the woman into a dead-end development on Peppermill Run where she then crashed her car into a tree, police said.

After crashing her car, the woman left the children in the car and fled through the woods nearby, according to police.

The two children were injured in the crash and taken to Hillcrest Hospital, where they are expected to recover, police said.

The department deployed helicopters and K-9 units in an attempt to find the woman, but police lost her trail.

Police are still searching for the woman at this time.
