NEWBURY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A man's body was recovered from a pond on Pekin Road in Newbury Township on Monday.
The Geauga County Sheriff's Office said a man went out fishing sometime Monday morning and by the time crews arrived in the afternoon, the ice was too dangerous to walk on.
Officials said the man's fishing gear was still sitting on the ice.
"No ice is safe - especially this winter with all the warm temperatures we have been having. The ice is much thinner than previous years," the sheriff's office said.
The identity of the man is unknown.
